Meet Harry Thomas, BSU’s field team leader for the South coast

There is plenty going on here at Blue Square Utilities (BSU) HQ, and we’re particularly proud of the team behind the scenes that continues to drive the organisation forwards.

Some people have been here for years, and others a few short months, but each one deserves their moment in the spotlight – and this month, we’re getting to know field team leader, Harry Thomas.

What’s the best part of your job?

I would say the people. Mine is a very social position and to be an approachable person where customers and colleagues can share any issue – large or small – is as important as helping to find a solution. I’m a very resolution-focused person and enjoy the challenges my role brings.

What do you see as a ‘job well done’?

A team that looks forward to coming to work and take pride in what they do.

How do you think BSU differentiates itself from its competitors?

BSU has a fundamental human element that many organisations try to portray but ultimately fail to deliver. I can certainly say that our management team has managed to get the balance exactly right, and I know that my voice is heard – even at the very highest levels.

If you were the boss for a day, what one rule would you implement?

Go karting on Friday afternoons. Okay, maybe once per month…

What three words do you think best describe BSU?

Family, progressive, and innovative.

What’s the first thing you do when you get home on a Friday evening?

I am a keen motorcyclist so if it’s a nice night I will get a run out, if not I will spend some time working on the machine to make sure it’s spanner-checked ahead of clocking up the miles come Saturday. I have a ‘naked’ Honda 650 street bike which I am really proud of, as well as another three sitting in the wings waiting for their moment on the tarmac.

Where is the best place in the UK for a two-day getaway?

I have just been to the Brecon Beacons – and got engaged while I was there too! I would highly recommend it as the scenery is amazing, the weather is beautiful in the summer, and you can easily leave your worldly troubles behind.

This song is on heavy Spotify rotation and here’s why…

I have such a wide taste in music, but I do like a bit of Tom Misch. Beautiful Escape was the first song that I listened to when I went for a ride after passing the compulsory basic training (CBT) for the motorbike. It gives me a real sense of freedom and great memory of a my own personal achievement.

If we were to spend a day box set binging, what series would you recommend we watch?

Breaking Bad. An absolute belter of a show!

How does your ideal Sunday pan out?

If I’m not out on the bike it would be enjoying a few beers with my friends while watching my beloved Arsenal playing (or rather, winning) a game.
