Although 2020 has been – in many ways – a year to forget, it’s also been a period of growth and hope for the blue Square Utilities (BSU) family, with a new management team in place, just shy of 100 new colleagues, and a completely new ‘vibe’.
When we sat down to look back at the year, we were pretty proud of the things we’ve achieved in the face of our toughest 12 months yet – both on professional and personal levels. With that in mind, we wanted to share with you a few of our ‘highs’.
Contract wins and engineering jobs in the North
Our turnover has increased by 200% when you compare Q4 of 2020 with Q1 – and we have secured a pair of further contracts which are being mobilised in the new year too.
Things really started to gain momentum in the second half of the 2020, as we announced a huge recruitment drive – for no less than 50 dual fuel engineers – following a successful tender with Amey.
Supporting the roll-out of domestic smart meters to Scottish Power customers across the North East and Yorkshire, the contract will generate £2.5m of income per annum for Blue Square Utilities.
We didn’t stop there though, adding another 10 positions, and making five internal promotions just a few weeks later.
Supporting local businesses
The team at BSU is always keen to shout about our peers too, and we made sure that we celebrated the arrival of a new and independent provider of electricity and gas, Square1 Energy.
Entering the market with a firm focus on delivering excellent customer service, we’re already helping their clients to transition from old meters to a smarter solution, via our contract with Fulcrum metering services.
Utilities industry accreditations
Committed to cementing our reputation within the industry, our CEO, Steve Lees, has been the driving force behind us working towards achieving ISO 9001 certification.
Marking the international standard for a Quality Management System (QMS), once the process is complete, BSU will be endorsed as a firm which adheres to the very best working practices, and one which is able to consistently provide products and services that meet customer, stakeholder and regulatory requirements.
Christmas opening hours
As you can probably tell by now, our colleagues have worked incredibly hard this year, so we thought it was only fair they put their feet up, eat plenty of mince pies, and enjoy the festivities with their family. (Or should that be, social bubble?).
That’s why we’re closing the office from Christmas Eve until 1 January 2021.
